Biographical note and Research Interests

I have graduated in Humanities in 2004, at the UCP Braga, with Erasmus in 2001, at the Sorbonne – Paris IV. Have been a Visiting Scholar at the Rice Linguistics Department, Rice University, Houston, TX, USA, in 2005-6. I am currently writing my PhD thesis on the diachronic development from Ibero-Romance to Contemporary Portuguese of the predicative constructions with haver and ter. My research subject is Possession and Existence in Portuguese and it is grounded in the theoretical perspective of Cognitive Linguistics. It also comprises the analysis of phenomena of grammaticalization and linguistic change throughout the history of Portuguese via the implementation of a quantitative methodology of corpus linguistics specific to linguistic diachrony.
